Service Description
crond Cron wakes up every minute, examining all stored crontabs, checking each command to see if it should be run in the current minute. When executing commands, any output is mailed to the owner of the crontab (or to the user named in the MAILTO environment variable in the crontab, if such exists).
cups is the scheduler for the Common UNIX Printing System. It implements a printing system based upon the Internet Printing Protocol, version 1.1. If no options are specified on the command-line then the default configuration file /etc/cups/cupsd.conf will be used.
cvs Concurrent Versioning system for managing multi- user documents.
dc-client runs a client proxy to provide access to a remote cache server (typically over TCP/IPv4) by providing a local service (typically over unix domain sockets).
dc-server runs a cache server and starts listening on a configurable network address for connections. Incoming connections are expected to communicate using the distcache protocol, and would typically be instances of dc_client running on other computers.
dovecot Dovecot is an open source IMAP and POP3 server for Linux/UNIX-like systems, written with security primarily in mind. Dovecot is an excellent choice for both small and large installations. It is fast, simple to set up, requires no special administration and it uses very little memory. Recommended to support email access from Microsoft Outlook or similar email client software.

dhcpd The DHCP server. Is your network large enough that static IPs are a pain, then this will make it easier, giving you DHCP IP configuration for your network.
dund BlueZ Bluetooth dial-up networking daemon.
dm Display Manager. The core of the x-server, required for using any GUI.
fam File system Alteration Monitor. Logger for all changes to a file system.
finger Remote access of data. This server will allow remote access of user login data, last login date and time. useful for monitoring employee work habits when you are not in the office, major breach of security, in that you are effectively publishing confidential company data online.
fuse File system in user space.
gfs2 Global File System (GFS) is a shared disk file system for Linux computer clusters. Support for cluster requirements.
gpm Console mode mouse driver.
hald maintains a database of the devices connected to the system system in real-time. The daemon connects to the D-Bus system message bus to provide an API that applications can use to discover, monitor and invoke operations on devices.
htpd Apache Web server. Required as a major component of a dedicated Linux web server.
iptables is used to set up, maintain, and inspect the tables of IP packet filter rules in the Linux kernel. Several different tables may be defined. Each table contains a number of built-in chains and may also contain user-defined chains. Each chain is a list of rules which can match a set of packets. Each rule specifies what to do with a packet that matches. This is called a 'target', which may be a jump to a user-defined chain in the same table. Required to support server firewall.
