Scenarist displays the following window for an empty new DVD project. Each DVD project work space consists of the following four tabs:

1) The Data Editor manages your project files such as video, audio, and bitmap files.

2) The Track Editor constructs individual film segments (tracks) which can be reused throughout the authoring project.

3) The Scenario Editor defines new DVD data structures (, , , , or ) or modifies existing ones. The Scenario Editor can create navigation links and assign them to the precommand or postcommand of a PGC, to a cell or button command section of a cell. The DVD author can perform the link assignment by simple drag-and-drop operations without the need to know the details of the required for those operations. For precise control of advanced DVD features needed for low-level authoring, the Scenario Editor supports the entire as defined by the .

4) The Layout Editor produces and records the final DVD image for your project.

There are three additional windows at the bottom of the work space:

5) The Information Window shows errors and the percentage of completion for certain process. For example, mpeg2 video files are checked for the DVD-compliant requirements (number of GOPs, maximum bit rate, resolution, etc.) and a brief message on whether the files are accepted or rejected by Scenarist.

6) The Property Browser shows the properties of a selected item in the current work space. Here you can rename an item if you do not want to use the generated name by Scenarist. This window provides the mechanism to change the properties or attributes of each individual DVD data structure. In other words, if you want to change the name of a PGC or to make a cell seamless, the modification is performed by selecting the appropriate attributes shown in this window for that particular data structure.

7) The Asset Manager shows the current video, audio, and subpicture files available in the DVD project to assemble.
