If we want the subtitle to appear regardless of the settings of the DVD player, we can select the "Forced Start" option from the Subpicture and Highlight tab in the Simulation window as following. In this example, the half size mode is chosen. To change the default duration of the subtitle (2 seconds) to 4 seconds long, we can type in a new value at the "Data End Time" field for the new duration (00:00:04:00). Scenarist automatically computes the data end time of the subtitle if the end of the video is reached. The coordinates of the rectangular area which encloses the subtitle text are displayed at the bottom of the Simulation window. We can adjust these coordinates to fine tune the size and position of the subtitle at the pixel level if needed.

To synchronize the display of a particular subtitle item with the video stream, the start time of the subtitle can be specified via the "Start Time To Video" field in the Property Browser window. To display this window properly, we have to select the corresponding Subpicture timeline from the Tracks Editor window as following. In this example, the subtitle does not appear until 2 seconds into the video playback.
