Let us now access the chapters from the title menu. Since the menu buttons of the title menu is in the Video Manager VMG domain, they cannot access the chapters directly. Scenarist disallows linking to the program icons representing the chapters. However, the menu buttons in the VMG domain can access any of the predefined VTS menus: root, chapter/PTT, angle, audio, or subpicture. We now create a PTT menu which acts as a bridge to link the buttons of the title menu to the program chapters of the title 1 in the VTS. PGCs which exist with the sole purpose to carry out this function is known as "route-through" PGCs. Route-through PGCs are commonly set up as an empty PGC with only precommand section in the Video Manager VMG domain or as one of the predefined VTS menus. Each button on the title menu, when selected by the viewer, needs to set a value in a general parameter register (GPRM1) to let the PTT menu know which chapter to play. We will set this up in subsequent section of this guide. For now, we just build the linkage from the menu buttons of the title menu to the chapter menu.

Since there are two menu buttons in the title menu, Scenarist prompts for the button which will be assigned the generated virtual machine command. We now select the button 1 from the prompt window to link this menu item to the first chapter of the title in the VTS. In the following screen shot, the coordinates of the menu button 1 is displayed when the cursor is placed on it momentarily. We click on this button to select it. Scenarist generates the virtual command JumpSS:PTTMenu for this menu button automatically. We repeat the same process for the second menu button.
