There are four black-and-white bitmap files corresponding to each menu. These files are used to construct the required highlight layers for the selection and button highlight of each menu item. We now locate the four Windows bitmap files provided with this guide m1mask.bmp, m2mask.bmp, m3mask.bmp, and m4mask.bmp as in the following pictures. The areas covered with white pixels allow the background colors of the selected menu page to show through. The areas covered with black pixels act as a display mask to show the selection and action colors. The DVD specifications allow up to four colors in the highlight layers. The picture masks provided by this guide use only two colors (black and white).

These four bitmap files are then dragged and dropped to the right pane of the Data Editor window. The Asset Manager window shows four new items with the default names as following.

During the registration process of each of the above bitmap files, we select the category "Sub-picture with Forced Start" for each data item registered. Scenarist prompts the registration of the file m4mask.bmp as following. If everything is imported properly without errors, the Information Window shows a message to indicate the acceptance of the files.
