In a nutshell, these are the steps you have to perform to make a true digital backup copy of your movie DVD. Both the video and audio tracks are copied bit- by-bit without any changes. Hollywood studios do not want you to have this knowledge, and definitely do not want you to do this. The only changes are navigation information and virtual commands which direct the DVD player to play or to skip certain unwanted titles (warnings, intros), or chapters (in case of disc splitting). More detaied information are presented in other sections of this web site.

Step 1. Copy and decrypt the movie DVD to a local hard drive. There are many excellent freeware tools readily available to do this task for you with just a few clicks and at absolutely no cost. We prefer SmartRipper and DVD Decrypter for their excellent reliability, speed, and ease of use.

Step 2. Fit the contents of the video DVD into a recordable DVD-R.
DVD-Replica does this job for you with just a few clicks.
