Scenarist prompts for the type of track to create. We select "Still Menu" for the title menu background.

For each still menu scene, there is one menu track created. Now we can add a mask (or highlight) layer to each menu track. We first select the still scene (labeled Menu-t-scn) as shown in the following picture. From the Asset Manager window, drag the item MenuMask and drop it to an empty area between the Still and Scenes timeline as following (the screen shot shows when the operation is completed).

Scenarist creates the first subpicture layer for the still scene Menu -t-scn. The DVD specifications allow the creation of up to 32 subpicture layers. The default language for this subpicture layer is "Not Specified". We should select an appropriate language code so that the language choice is displayed by a standard DVD player (when the Audio or Subpicture button is pressed on the remote control unit). In this example, we choose English as the language code for the first subpicture stream.

To create the title menu, we simply drag the item Menu-t from the Tracks pane of the Asset Manager window and drop it on the language unit icon to create the English title menu as following (the screen shot shows when the operation is completed).

The title menu is created as a PGC marked "Title" under the English language unit. Scenarist automatically creates the required program and cell to hold the display for the title menu page (as a still picture). The title menu is not operational until we add the menu items (commonly known as menu buttons) and assign appropriate playback actions to these menu buttons. We can see how the actual title menu page looks like in the Simulation window.
