There are many ways to make selections in Photoshop. I do ninety percent of mine with the regular lasso tool and Quick mask. You should experiment with the other features, but I have never had any success with the Magic Wand and find the magnetic lasso tool annoying. The pen tool is a very useful but often overlooked item of Photoshop. Using the pen tool allows you to create an image composed and saved in curves instead of pixels. This lets you create images and logos which are infinitely resizable to any scale with applications from posters to tiny web logos. In addition to creating vectors the pen tool is also useful for clipping images and selecting sections of a picture with a very accurate precision. This tutorial shows how to create a vector based logo from a picture with the pen tool.

One of the most challenging montage or masking jobs in the profession of post-production editing is the hair lift. When the model has long flowing hair and the subject needs to change location many post-production artists call in sick. Get it wrong and, just like a bad wig, it shows.
