Use SmartRipper or DVD Decrypter
to rip this movie DVD to a local folder,
for example, C:\JohnQ
On some newer DVDs, the auto backup option (best guess) may not produce
the splitting layout you want due to many copy-prevention and splitting-prevention
schemes built into the original movie DVD.
JohnQ has such a scheme (mapped PGC).
Disc 2 reports an output of 10 GB
which seems to be larger than the original DVD.
We will have to use other tabs
to do a manual layout of this backup.
The automatic splitting still works for Disc 1, but select "Skip Disc 2" so
the image of the second disc is not generated by the auto tab backup.
Use "Start with title" to start with the movie.
Other options are "Start Normal" if you want the same behavior as the
original DVD, or "Start with menu" to display the movie menu.
Select the VTS tab to generate disc 2.
Here the mapped title 2 needs to be removed.
Right click and select "Keep Title" to keep/remove a particular title or to view it.
Click back up to generate disc 2.
Select the split point at chapter 18 (same as calculated by auto tab) and use the
"Keep VTS". What Keep VTS does is to save the remaining chapters and the rest on
disc 2. Note that disc 2 should take only 3.83 GB as reported.
Save the image of the second disc at the folder C:\Disc2 or any name you like.
After the process is done. The contents of Disc 2 is larger than 3.83 GB since it
contains many mapped titles. Reopen the C:\Disc2 folder again. Use the DVD tab to
select the "real" titles. Unfortunately you will have to go through the title list
and view which ones to keep.
Click backup and select "Skip disc 1" since we had the first backup image already,
choose another output folder, say C:\Disc2fix.
The contents of Disc2fix is now ready to back up.
We can include some mapped titles if disc space permits.
DVD-Replica auto option works with most DVDs.
Use other tab options to bypass the copying/splitting prevention schemes
like mapped PGCs.
Remember to rename the output folders (Disc1 or Disc2)
to VIDEO_TS before burning or playing.
