11. What are the hard drive storage requirements ?
You will need approximately 7-8 GB of storage for each movie DVD and additional
4-5 GB for each reauthored backup disc.
12. Do you have examples on backing up movie DVDs ?
Yes.
Click here for the reauthor and backup examples.
13. The auto tab option does not work
the way I expected ?
The auto tab is designed to work with most movie DVD automatically. However,
some movie DVDs may have copy prevention or splitting prevention features.
You will need to use other tabs such as "VTS" to do a manual title selection.
14. What should I do if the discs made by DVD-Replica do not
play on a DVD player ?
It is likely that the movie DVD has some copy prevention scheme such as hiding the
menu in the video manager (VMG) or using the same menu for two different screen
versions. During splitting or selective title back up, the real menu was not selected
for backing up and the DVD player is displaying an empty menu (black screen).
Use the "Keep VMG" option or "Start with title" will solve most of the problems.
15. What are the options "Start Normal", "Start with title",
"Start with menu" ?
Select "Start Normal" if you want the back up DVD to behave the same way as the
original movie DVD when it is inserted into the DVD player. Select "Start with
title" to start the disc with the main movie. Select "Start with menu" to display
the menu of the main movie. "Start with title" is highly recommended.
16. What is the Keep VTS option ?
When a VTS (Video Title Set) is selected for back up and it is too large to fit
into a single DVD-R, select this option will keep the main movie and its menu on
the first disc and the remaining of the movie
and other VTSes on the second
disc. If "Keep VTS" is not selected, the second disc has only the remaining chapters
of the main movie.
17. What is the Keep VMG option ?
The Video Manager (VMG) usually contains short introductory clips such as
copyright, FBI warnings, etc. By default, these clips are not backed up.
Some movie DVDs move the main movie menu into the VMG to prevent copying.
Select this option to back up the entire contents of the VMG.
18. What are the common copy or splitting prevention schemes ?
Besides the encryption scheme CSS (Contents Scrambling System), a movie DVD can
have its navigation structured in such ways to make copying and splitting problematic
by using techniques such as mapped PGCs (a lot of dummy titles refering to the same
movie clip), hidden menu (by moving a VTS menu into the Video Manager VMG), using
the same menu for both standard and wide screen, etc. DVD-Replica can overcome most
if not all of these schems with its manual tab (title, VTS, and DVD).
