A typical video DVD is dual-layered and contains almost 9 Gbytes of data. Backing up everything into a single DVD-R which can hold only 4.37 Gbytes is not possible without adjustments or reauthoring. A video DVD has two major components: a Video Manager (VMG) and one or more Video Title Sets (VTS).

The Video Manager, as shown in the above picture, has commands to instruct the DVD player what to do when the disc is inserted, and one or more commands to interact with the user selections. The VMG of most commercial video DVDs also has short clips which display the company trademarks, the FBI copyright warning display, the region check display if a disc having improper region marking is played back, and some other short introductory video clips.

The VMG may have a title menu. This menu appears when the button "title" on the remote control is pressed. The title menu is often designed to let the users select the wide-screen (16:9) or standard-screen (4:3) version of the main movie title.

DVD-Replica lets you preview the video contents of the VMG. You can then decide to keep or not to keep the VMG on the backup DVD-R. If the contents of the VMG are discarded, clips such as the FBI copyright warning are skipped during the playback of the backup disc.
DVD-Replica does not keep the VMG by default.
