The following two data structures help the DVD player to support random access playback,
fast forward, and rewind operations at normal speed (1X) or various high-speed settings
(2X, 4X, 8X, and 16X). Each video object unit (VOBU) is a self-contained multiplexed unit
of video, audio, and sub-picture streams. Since the starting address of each video object
unit is prerecorded in the VOB Unit Address Map data structure, playback can begin at the
beginning of any video object unit without video and audio synchronization problem.
The time map data structure may also be used to better estimate large jump at high-speed
setting.
